Google has officially rolled out the Google Meet for everyone. Earlier, the company announced that they will make the premium app free for everyone with a Gmail account. But now, Google is planning to integrate Meet into Gmail directly. The tech giant plans to take on Zoom, the video conferencing platform that became increasingly popular during the coronavirus lockdown.

“We’ve re-engineered Google Meet, originally built for secure business meetings, to make it free and available to all. Since making Meet’s advanced features free for all G Suite and G Suite for Education users in March, we’ve seen daily usage grow by 30x, with Meet hosting 3 billion minutes of video meetings daily. Last month, we were adding roughly 3 million new users every day. That’s why we’re expanding the offering to more people around the world, “Javier Soltero Vice President & GM, G Suite said in a blog post.

Anyone who has a Gmail account can sign up and start a video call at meet.google.com, for free. “To make meetings even more accessible and helpful, in the coming days you’ll also be able to use Meet directly in Gmail,” the Google blog read.

Here’s how you can start a video meeting on Google Meet app

—If you are G-Suite user, you have to sign in to your G-suite account before you start a call. Non-G-Suite users can access Google Meet can sign in from their Gmail account.

—So after you download the Meet app from PlayStore or AppStore. Open the Meet app

—After opening the app, tap on the plus icon to start a meeting or enter a meeting code, if you have been invited to join by some other user. G-Suite users can also join by typing a nickname.

— After filling all the necessary details, you can Tap on the Join Meeting option given there.

—You can also schedule meetings by opening the Google Calendar app

Google Meet has some advanced features like scheduling and sharing screen, real-time captions, and layouts that you can choose as per your requirement, an expanded tiled view—that gives a better view of the people connected through the app.

In order to make Google Meet more accessible to people with hearing loss, Google had implemented AI-powered automatic live captioning. “Google AI has also made it possible to provide helpful features like low-light mode, which can automatically adjust your video to make you more visible to others,” Google blog said.

For the unversed, Google Meet is available for free on the web at meet.google.com and via mobile apps for iOS or Android. Anyone who has a Gmail account can sign in at meet.google.com to activate their Meet account.
