18.88 Lakh New Workers Enrolled Under ESI Scheme in September 2023, Signaling Job Creation for Youth

New Delhi, November 15 (HS): The Ministry of Labor and Employment released provisional payroll data on Wednesday, revealing that in the month of September 2023, 22,544 new establishments were registered and brought under the social security coverage of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

During September 2023, a total of 18.88 lakh new employees were added to the ESIC scheme. Among these newly registered employees, 9.06 lakh individuals belonged to the age group of up to 25 years, constituting 47.98 percent of the total newly registered workforce. This data indicates a significant increase in employment opportunities for the country’s youth.

A gender-based analysis of the data demonstrates that the net enrollment of women members in September 2023 reached 3.51 lakh. Additionally, 61 transgender employees are also registered under the ESI scheme, reflecting efforts to extend ESIC benefits to every segment of society.

This increase in the enrollment of workers in the ESIC scheme highlights the government’s commitment to expanding social security coverage and providing employment opportunities to the nation’s youth.
