Prayagraj, November 15 (HS): The Indian Railways’ “One Station One Product” (OSOP) scheme, aimed at promoting local products and artisans, has expanded its presence to more than 1,000 railway stations across the country. In Uttar Pradesh alone, over 100 outlets are now showcasing and selling products under this initiative, with 50 stalls already established in the North Central Railway zone.
The number of OSOP stalls in the North Central Railway zone is set to increase to 84 by the end of the year. Currently, there are 15 stalls in the Prayagraj division, 19 in the Jhansi division, and 16 in the Agra division. As of November 9, there are a total of 1134 OSOP stalls operating at 1037 railway stations nationwide.
The OSOP initiative is in line with the “Vocal for Local” campaign and aims to create better livelihood opportunities for local artisans, potters, weavers, handloom weavers, craftsmen, and more through skill development and provision of sales outlets. The scheme was launched as a pilot project on March 25, 2022, for 15 days at 19 stations.
Indian Railways provides designed sales outlets at stations with a specific look, feel, and logo under this scheme. As of last week, a total of 39,847 direct beneficiaries have availed opportunities through this initiative, with an estimated total of 1,43,232 beneficiaries, including indirect ones, at the rate of 5 per allocation.
