NEW DELHI: Just few hours before former foreign minister and BJP veteran leader Sushma Swaraj breathed her last on Tuesday night, she had thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Centre’s move on Jammu and Kashmir and said she had been ‘waiting to see this day in my lifetime’.
“Narendra Modi ji – Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime.” She was referring to the scrapping of Article 370, ending the special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Sushma Swaraj’s last tweet was liked over 222,600 times and retweeted over 54,000 times. She had 13.1 million followers on Twitter.
Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj died at AIIMS hospital on Tuesday night following cardiac arrest.
She was a fiery politician and an active social media user, who often responded on Twitter and intervened to help people seeking assistance.
Just a day before her death, Sushma Swaraj had welcomed the Centre’s move on Article 370 and termed it a bold and historic decision.
“A bold and historic decision. We salute our Great India – One India,” Swaraj had tweeted shortly after the BJP-led government abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and barred people from rest of India from buying land in the state.
A former Supreme Court lawyer, Sushma Swaraj had opted out of contesting elections earlier this year citing health reasons.
