Mumbai, December 27, 2019: Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) launched ‘Meri Sangini, Meri Margdarshika’ project at a ceremony in Aarey Colony in Mumbai. The project aims to create and nurture women leaders from the community, who then become changemakers.
‘Meri Sangini, Meri Margdarshika’ will be implemented by Adani Foundation, the CSR arm of Adani Group in partnership with Haqdarshak in Tilak Nagar and Aarey Colony on a pilot basis .
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Sushama Oza, Director, Adani Foundation, said, “As a Sangini, the community volunteers will be given knowledge and skills through trainings to act as peer counsellors and advisors. Sanginis will work on social issues like domestic violence, while acting as a bridge to connect the people with the Government agencies and schemes.”
An AEML spokesperson said, “Adani Electricity is extremely happy to collaborate with Adani Foundation for a noble cause like ‘Meri Sangini-Meri Margdarshika’ which will serve as one of the best platform to provide benefits of various government schemes. It will also empower women to broaden the scope of economic opportunities and enhance the quality of their life.”
AEML is also supporting the launch of Adani Skill Development Centre in Mumbai, which will be imparting skill training to 1200 people on a yearly basis with special focus on women. The courses offered through this initiative of Adani Foundation, aim to enable women to earn livelihood and encourage them to become entrepreneurs.
Adani Foundation, with support from AEML, is also launching its project ‘Swachhagraha & Safety (S+S)’, in more than 2200 schools in Mumbai.
Swachhagraha — Swachhata ka Satyagraha is a Behavioural Change Education Programme. Swachhagraha draws inspiration from Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle movement, which catalysed action through tremendous patience and perseverance, instilling in the Indian mind, dignity and self-respect. It aims at engaging people and bringing about a change, similar in scale to India’s freedom movement, where people get involved to take action for ‘Creating a Culture of Cleanliness’. Recognising the need to address safety especially with children, the component of Safety was added to this project.
With school children as the flagbearers and teachers as the mentors, Swachhagraha will be active in Government, Government-aided and Private Schools in Mumbai, across different mediums like Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Urdu, Hindi, English and Gujarati.
