CM Dhami inaugurates 6th World Disaster Management International Congress Conference.

Dehradun, November 28 (HS): Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 6th World Disaster Management International Congress (WCDM) at Graphic Era on Tuesday. Delegates from 70 countries are participating in the four-day seminar. In a total of 70 sessions, international and national-level speakers will brainstorm discussions on disaster management, rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Tuesday morning, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar, DK Joshi, inaugurated jointly the four-day programme at the Silver Jubilee Convention Centre of Graphic Era University. The technical sessions of the conference will run simultaneously at more than 20 venues and a grand exhibition on disaster management was organised on the university grounds.

Describing this conference as very important, megastar of the century Amitabh Bachchan has congratulated Chief Minister Dhami and the people of Uttarakhand for its success.

In this conference, climate change and disaster risk, disaster risk reduction and resilience, early warning systems and preparedness, response, recovery and post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction work will be discussed. This conference is being seen as a big initiative to establish Uttarakhand on the world stage.

The 6th World Disaster Management Conference is being attended by top scientists, experts, academicians, policy makers and researchers from around 70 countries working on and making strategies in the disaster sector. In this international conference, studies, research, and experiences on disasters will be shared in confidence. Efforts will be made to find a comprehensive solution to disasters. About 350 research papers will be presented in this four-day-long international conference, and the Dehradun Declaration on Disaster Management will be issued in the closing ceremony.

The main theme of this year’s World Disaster Management Conference, focusing on mountain ecosystems and communities, is Strengthening Climate Action and Disaster Resilience. After this, important ideas, reactions, and suggestions regarding disaster management at the global level will be compiled in the Dehradun Declaration to be prepared.

About 600 delegates will participate in the Congress. Cultural programmes will also be organised in the evening on the first two days of the four-day event. Apart from this, foreign guests will also be taken to Rishikesh for Ganga Aarti.

On this occasion, Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Disaster Management Secretary Dr. Ranjit Sinha, Dr. Durgesh Pant, environmentalist Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, Kamal Ghanshala and others were present.
